We are using the term culture to cover a multitude of interests, from history to food and drink. The cottages are on a single track road running along the southern shore of Loch Broom. The series of small communities along the road are collectively known as ‘The Lochside’. In days gone by, before the road was built, this was a thriving community with shops and schools and many working crofts. All communication with the outside world was either by boat across the loch to Leckmelm, or by foot over the hill to Dundonnel.
There was a period of decline that ended about 15 years ago as more people moved into, or returned to, the area and there are now about 65 families living in the lochside.
